Opposites

This was one of the larger color abstract tattoos that I’ve done.  A lower leg sleeve featuring a river that originates from a “hole” on the back of the knee and wraps down and around to the foot with a canoe floating in the middle. On the upper side from the river are greens and shapes reminiscent of animals and mountains.  On the lower portion below the river are red and orange shapes that are more angular and reminiscent of currency symbols.  The client was interested in representing opposing ideas.  Industry vs. nature,  positive vs. negative, good vs. evil, etc.  it was not limited to one set of opposites and therefore the abstraction allowed us to speak to all of them at once. This was tattooed in quite a few sessions, first concentrating on the river itself, and then the black shapes on either side, and finally the color and negative spaces.
